We don't normally arrange posed photographs such as in the image shown here of the groomsmen lifting the bride. We prefer to let events unfold as they are steered by the bride, groom, and wedding guests. Of course, if part of the fun for the groomsmen is to lift the bride, then the groom for good measure then we are only too happy to photograph the escapade!
On this occasion, the bride and groom requested that we photograph this bit of fun, which we are more than happy to do. It took place during a natural break in the family formal photographs at this Woodthorpe Hall, Holmesfield, Derbyshire wedding. This is an amazing wedding venue tucked away from the rest of this busy world that fills up quickly and at the time of writing this is full for the next two years. We have taken funny photographs at the request of couples before and we are delighted to help you set them up, but we won't set them up for you as we might not fully grasp what you want to achieve. Most of the time, the pictures of thing that just happen are the most fun!
Wedding photographers should always remember that we are working for the bride and groom on their wedding day. I feel too often that some of the images we see are created purely for the self-satisfaction of the photographer who seems hell bent on trying to get some wonderful image for their website or a competition entry.
While we want to create you as many beautiful images during the day as we can to act as a reminder of your day, we won’t hijack your wedding day for our ends. Yes, we will try to create you one or two absolutely stand out images that really capture the two of you on this most important of days, but we don't want you to feel that your day has been taken over by us for own gains, it is your wedding day, not a photo shoot with paid models!
