Red Deer Galloway Forest Park

We have taken many holidays in Dumfries and Galloway since we first discovered this gem of a location of the British Isles in 2009. One of our "must do" activities while we are in the Galloway Forest Park is to visit the Red Deer Range which is located on the A713 "The Queensway" between New Galloway and Newton Stewart. This magnificent stag was photographed here on the Red Deer Range, along with the many other deer which roam around this wonderful tourist attraction. Getting to see the deer close up and personal has always been a wonderful experience for us and our children and is certainly something I would recommend to any families visiting the area, just remember to bring lots of carrots!

At our last visit, there were three stags looking after the twenty or so females who inhabit the range. They are such wonderful characters and we have found it an interesting game to spot the more forceful (greedy) deer and note the numbers on their ear tags and to watch them as the week goes on giving them names like "Greedy Gertrude" as they hoover up another half hundred weight of carrots! tremendous fun for all the family to enjoy.

The Red Deer Range can be found on The Queen's Way, Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, DG8 7BL
