Red Deer Range Dumfries and Galloway

It is no secret that red deer are one of my favourite animals to watch and to photograph. These are absolutely beautiful creatures and the stags with their magnificent antlers are an absolute joy to photograph on the moorlands near my Sheffield home as well as with this beautiful creature, in Dumfries and Galloway in South West Scotland. We always try for a weeklong break in the Highlands of the Lowlands as this area is referred to by many of the locals. The geography is very much like a downsized version of the highlands and has many of the same animals and birds living in and around it. Dumfries and Galloway has the added benefit of being much closer to home so getting there is much less daunting with two children and two dog in the back!

Red Deer in Scotland

This magnificent stag was photographed during our autumn visit in 2019 at one of our favourite locations, the red deer range which is situated between New Galloway and Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway on the A712. The photograph was taken on one of the wonderful early November days which we are very often so fortunate to encounter. I can’t wait until our next visit to the area and hope as always that we will find we have as wonderfully amazing time as we always do. A beautiful part of the British Isles with some beautiful places to visit with some wonderful animals to see.
