Red Deer Range New Galloway

A visit to see the Red Deer Range in the Galloway Forest Park is always one of the highlights of our holidays in South West Scotland. This beautiful stag was photographed during our annual trip to this wonderful visitor attraction which is located on the A712 between New Galloway and Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway during one of our many visits there in the autumn of 2019. The deer are such wonderful characters and always on the lookout for visitors with bags of carrots! They are so well accustomed to visitors bearing food that just the sound of a car coming up the track towards the deer hide is enough to bring them down from the hillside to investigate.

Deer on The Red Deer Range

We have had so many wonderful times visiting the deer on the Red Deer Range. We, as well as our children have found the time spent with the deer such a wonderful experience, it isn’t often you can get so close to one of the UK’s largest native land animals. Compared to the red deer on big moor near our home in Sheffield, these deer are so tame they actively seek out visitors poking their heads through the windows at the hide at the Red Deer Range looking for something tasty to eat. For anyone visiting the area particularly with children, this really is a wonderful opportunity to meet these wonderful creatures and interact with them at close quarters.

The Red Deer Range can be found on The Queen' s Way, Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, DG8 7BL
