A visit to see the red deer is always one of the highlights of our holidays to South West Scotland. This beautiful stag was photographed at the Red Deer Range in the Galloway Forest Park between New Galloway and Newton Stewart in Dumfries and Galloway on our annual autumn trip there in 2019. The deer are such wonderful characters and always on the lookout for visitors with bags of carrots! They are so well accustomed to visitors bearing food that just the sound of a car coming up the track to the deer hide is enough to bring them down to investigate.
Compared to the red deer on big moor near our home in Sheffield, these deer are so tame they actively seek out visitors poking their heads through the windows at the hide at the Red Deer Range looking for something tasty to eat.
The Red Deer Range can be found on The Queen' s Way, Castle Douglas, Dumfries and Galloway, DG8 7BLKeywords: red deer (30). 1/400; f/4.5; ISO 100; 420.0 mm.
